1MB as a minimum

A 1MB minimum is unusual and often means the portal wants a high-resolution original. The preset on this page types 1024 for you, which equals 1,048,576 bytes. Padding gets the file there, but a small picture padded to 1MB is mostly empty bytes and uploads slowly on mobile data.

Example. A 300KB JPG padded to 1MB is about 70% padding. If you have the original 3 MB photo, compress that to 1MB with the 1MB page instead.
