Compress JPG to 20KB

JPG in, JPG out: shrink an existing JPG to 20KB or less.

KB
Advanced (optional): exact pixels or minimum KB

Many forms ask for pixels as well as KB. Leave empty if yours does not. Examples are common sizes only – always use the size your form states.

Compressing a file that is already a JPG

A JPG is already a lossy format, so compressing it again removes a little more detail each time. That is why you should always start from the best copy you have rather than from a version that has been shared a few times. If your JPG is already under 20KB, the tool returns it unchanged.

Example. A 1.8 MB JPG compressed once to 20KB looks acceptable. The same file compressed to 100KB, then to 50KB, then to 20KB looks noticeably blotchier, even though the final size is the same.

Best practice for JPG sources

  • Pick the highest-resolution JPG you have.
  • Do one compression pass, straight to the final size.
  • If a form needs a precise pixel size, set it in Advanced options so the tool crops once rather than twice.

Mistakes

  • Opening a JPG, editing it and saving at low quality before bringing it here.
  • Expecting a lossless result. For that you would need PNG, which is much larger.

Background: lossy vs lossless compression.

Questions about: Compress JPG to 20KB

Why does a JPG look worse after several compressions?

Each save discards detail and the losses add up. Compress from the original once.

No. It is kept as is.

Is JPG the same as JPEG?

Yes. The extensions .jpg and .jpeg are the same format.

About the Compress JPG to 20KB tool

This page is for JPG and JPEG files that must be 20KB or less. The tool re-saves the picture at the highest JPG quality that stays under the limit and lowers the pixel size only when needed, so you keep as much detail as 20KB can hold.

How to use the Compress JPG to 20KB tool

  1. Tap “Select Images” and choose your JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC file.
  2. The size box is already set to 20. Change it only if your form states a different limit.
  3. If your JPG is already under 20KB, the tool keeps it unchanged and tells you so.
  4. Press the green button, check the Before and After sizes, then download the file (or the ZIP if you added several).

More questions about Compress JPG to 20KB

Can I upload a PNG instead of a JPG on this page?

Yes. PNG, WebP and HEIC files also work, and the result is still a JPG.

What is the difference between .jpg and .jpeg?

They are the same format with different extensions. The tool reads both and saves its result with the .jpg extension.
