Many forms ask for pixels as well as KB. Leave empty if yours does not. Examples are common sizes only – always use the size your form states.

✅ Done! Your images are ready

Not an official tool. CompressPicOnline is not affiliated with any government, passport office, embassy, exam board or employer. Photo rules (KB size, pixels, background, head position) are set by the organisation you are applying to and can change, so read its official photo instructions before uploading. The 413 × 531 px preset is only 3.5 × 4.5 cm converted at 300 DPI. Other countries use other sizes: for example 35 × 45 mm is common in the UK and Schengen area, while the US uses 2 × 2 inches. Always verify the size on your form.

Two rules, one tool

Passport-style photo uploads usually have two separate rules: a file size limit and a picture shape. This page handles both. Set the size to 50, then open Advanced options and enter the pixel size your form states. The 413 × 531 preset is simply 3.5 × 4.5 cm converted at 300 DPI (35 ÷ 25.4 × 300 and 45 ÷ 25.4 × 300), not an official standard.

Example. A 4000 × 3000 selfie is landscape. With “Crop to fit” selected the tool cuts it to a 413 × 531 portrait around the centre, then lowers quality until the file is under 50KB. If your face is off-centre, crop the original first.

Taking a photo that compresses well

  • Stand about an arm’s length from a plain light wall, with light on your face from the front.
  • Keep the camera at eye level and leave space above the head; the tool crops from the centre.
  • Avoid patterned clothing against a patterned wall. Fine texture is the first casualty at 50KB.

What the tool does not check

It sets file size and pixel dimensions. It does not check background colour, head size, glasses, expression or shadows. Those rules belong to the organisation that receives your photo.

Common reasons for rejection

  • Stretching the picture to fit. Use Crop to fit or white borders, never Stretch, for faces.
  • Uploading a photo of a printed photo; glare and paper grain are obvious.
  • Using pixel sizes from another country’s example.

Questions about: Passport Size Photo to 50KB

What is 3.5 x 4.5 cm in pixels?

At 300 DPI it is about 413 × 531 pixels. At 600 DPI it is roughly double. Use whatever pixels your form states.

Will my face be stretched?

Not with the default “Crop to fit”, which keeps proportions. Choose “Add white borders” if you must keep the whole picture.

Does this guarantee acceptance?

No. It fixes file size and pixels only. Background, head position and expression are decided by the requesting organisation.

Is my photo sent to a server?

No. Everything runs in your browser.

More questions about Passport Size Photo to 50KB

Which file types can I upload for a 50KB passport photo?

JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC files are accepted. The result is saved as a JPG.

Should I crop before or after compressing?

Crop to head and shoulders first, or let the Crop to fit option do it. Compress last, so the 50KB is spent on the face and not on the background.
