PNG to JPG, then to 50KB

PNG stores every pixel exactly, which makes photographs very large: a PNG screenshot or photo is often 1–5 MB. Converting to JPG discards detail the eye barely notices and is the main way to reach 50KB. The result is always a JPG.

Example. A 2.4 MB PNG of a scanned ID card becomes a JPG under 50KB. Large flat areas and clear text survive well; fine textures such as hair and fabric lose more.

Transparency

JPG has no transparency. Transparent areas of your PNG are filled with white, so a logo with a see-through background will appear on white. If you need transparency, keep the PNG and use a different approach, such as a smaller pixel size.

When PNG is smaller

  • Simple graphics with few colours, such as icons and flat logos, can be smaller as PNG than as JPG.
  • Check the Before and After numbers in the result list.
